An Exceptional Advocate
Peter accepts The Self Advocate of the Year Award

UCP of Suffolk Participant Peter was named Self Advocate of the Year by The Self Advocacy Association of New York State (SANYS).Peter was honored at SANYS' Long Island Regional Self Advocacy Conference at the Melville Marriott.

"It feels great," he said.

When Peter is not self-advocating, he is spending time with his wife, Yolan, of 17 years or taking part in numerous activities at UCP of Suffolk. Peter has been advocating for many years. He attends every SANYS meeting and expresses his thoughts and concerns.

"I am very proud of him because he has come a long way," Karen Gramarossa, Assistant Coordinator of Day Habilitation Services said. "He has had many challenges during his life that he has overcome and that has brought him to where he is today.

Peter said that he wants to take part in more volunteer work and continue to advocate for himself and others. He had a message for individuals with disabilities.

"You need to advocate and always speak up for yourself," he said. "Tell people what you need because it's very important."

UCP of Suffolk Held Annual Golf Classic

Hundreds enjoyed a day of golf and fun at UCP of Suffolk's 26th Annual Golf Classic, sponsored by Arch Insurance, at Glen Head Country Club on Monday, June 1, 2015. The event honored UCP of Suffolk Board Member Lawrence Levy, Executive Dean at National Center Center for Suburban Studies at Hofstra University and raised more than $130,000. All proceeds go directly to support the programs and services provided by the agency to over 3,500 individuals with disabilities annually.

We are delighted to be honoring a very impressive individual at this year's Golf Classic," said Stephen H. Friedman, President & CEO of UCP of Suffolk. "Larry's dedication to helping individuals with disabilities live a life without limits is one of the many reasons he deserves this honor."

"We are so very appreciative to Arch Insurance for returning again as our presenting sponsor," Friedman said. "We would also like to thank everyone that attended and made this year's Golf Classic a great success."

A Star-Studded Affair
The Children's Center of UCP Suffolk held its Hollywood themed commencement ceremony on Friday, June 19, 2015. The Class of 2015 featured 13 students who graduated or moved up/on. Each student took a big step in their journey in front of over 200 attendees that included friends, family, teachers and members of the UCP of Suffolk Board of Directors and staff.

"I am proud of the accomplishment our graduates have made," Sherri Glazer, Principal and Director of Educational Services of The Children's Center said. "Their strength, endurance and perseverance are nothing short of remarkable. Congratulations to the Class of 2015!"

Flowers in Bloom

Capital One Green Team
 The Capital One Bank Green Team recently planted beautiful flowers around the school grounds of The Children's Center of UCP Suffolk for the second year in a row!

"We love coming here," Mary Hiscock, Capital One Green Team Leader said. "We love giving back to the community and we could not think of a better place."

More than 20 Green Team members planted an array of spring flowers around the school as well as watched in on student activities.

"The Capital One Green Team never ceases to amaze me," Principal Sherri Glazer said. "This group of very generous volunteers transformed our drab flowerbeds into a beautiful and colorful garden. Thank you to the Green Team for their time and hard work."

Join us for a UCP of Suffolk Artist Exhibit Reception featuring the works of our amazing artists at Astoria Bank at 845 Wheeler Road in Hauppauge, NY on Wednesday, July 15th from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.!

The exhibit is open to the general public from Wednesday, June 17th until mid-July during normal branch hours of 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday to Thursday, 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday and 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday.

UCP of Suffolk to Honor Longtime Supporter 
at 2015 Scramble

UCP of Suffolk will host its 2015 Scramble on Monday, August 3, 2015 at the Nissequogue Golf Club in St. James, NY. New York Community Bank Foundation returns as the presenting sponsor. 

This year's event will honor David E. Herold of Certilman Balin Adler & Hyman LLP. Mr. Herold has been a generous supporter of UCP of Suffolk and has been involved with the Scramble for years. "I'm impressed and moved by UCP of Suffolk's facility, staff and the
participants," he said. "I am honored to help in any way that I can."

Mr. Herold serves as a Partner at Certilman Balin Adler & Hyman, LLP in the Real Estate and Commercial Lending Groups. He represents institutional lenders financing multi-family and commercial properties and documenting credit facilities for middle market and small business borrowers with a focus on condominium associations and home owners associations. In addition to conventional mortgage financing, he has experience in a variety of lending transactions including: leasehold financing, mezzanine financing, receivable financing and lending to borrowers in connection with EB-5 Immigrant Investor Program projects.

6th Annual 5K Walk & Wheel Is On It's way

And their off!! More than 600 people attended UCP of Suffolk's 2014 5K Walk & Wheel 
Join UCP of Suffolk for its 6th Annual 5K Walk & Wheel at Belmont Lake State Park in Babylon on Saturday, October 3, 2015.

Proceeds from the Walk & Wheel will support vital programs and services which help create Life Without Limits for people with disabilities.

Bethpage Federal Credit Union returns as presenting sponsor, with additional sponsorship support provided from M&T Bank, Estee Lauder Companies and New York Therapy Placement Services, Inc.

"We decided to do a walk and wheel rather than a race because we wanted to include all of our program participants, friends, family members and employees in demonstrating what we mean by life without limits for people with disabilities, and I can't think of a better way," said Stephen H.
